Position: Network Engineer
Job Description: Responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the networking processes in a Wi-Fi metro scale network - implementing, managing and troubleshooting existing network and system environments, and supporting a variety of hardware. Networking equipment expertise is critical e.g. backhaul, gateways, CPE devices, routers, etc. Ensures that the performance and availability of the server and network infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards in order that maximum productivity is achieved. Supports users by a variety of methods, and provides technical expertise to users by verbal or written means. Responsible for the implementation, installation and configuration of systems, and the administration and support of those systems. In larger organizations, connects offices and individual users at remote locations to the corporate network.
Develop, test, and implement hardware, software, and platform requirements and specifications for system enhancements of existing and new features and services for projects of moderate complexity and scope. Execute hardware, platform, and application test suites and test plans for network systems, features, and services. Analyze test results, determine, schedule, and implement corrective actions. Document failed test suites and cases, submit trouble tickets with appropriate software development organization, monitor and retest until resolution and trouble ticket closure. Documenting and monitoring the development and implementation of proposed solutions. Validate the results of lab and FIT testing. Organize, participate in, and conduct walkthroughs of project deliverables; participate on project teams. Provide technical support
Tasks typically involve some or all of the following:
- installing and supporting new server hardware and software network infrastructure;
- maintaining the system – software and hardware;
- allocating network resources;
- providing technical support to a wide range of users;
- ensuring all equipment complies with industry standards;
- surveying and providing IT solutions;
- managing IP addresses;
- implementing and monitoring network security;
- training users;
- developing documentation, including user guides;
- undertaking project work;
- working with other departments/business units;
- issuing passwords and access rights;
- introducing new technologies in server and infrastructure areas;
- planning and implementing future developments;
- advising on networking issues;
- managing an organization's external communications with its clients and suppliers;
- managing the web site and keeping internal networks running;
- monitoring use of web and email by employees;
- troubleshooting.
